Friday, February 2
Well, actually it is already Saturday, but that is just a technicality. Friday morning was our earliest morning since the start of this journey. Chaperones knocked on doors between 5:15 and 5:30 so that we could gather in the lobby with our luggage to catch the bus to the airport. A quick trip through check-in and immigration and we were settled in the waiting area for our flight. Thankfully, the flight was only delayed by a few minutes (instead of hours) and we were in the air by 11:45 am.
Once we landed in Toronto, we sailed through customs, the baggage carousel and a lot of bathroom breaks before heading out to the terminal where we said a typical Cuban good-bye to Ally W. who was picked up by family to head to a tournament the next morning. We stayed inside as long as we could while we waited for Mr. Bunce, Mr. Di Pietro and Mr. Fuller to collect the three vehicles from the long-term parking lot and before we knew it we were on the 401 Westbound and headed for home.
We stopped for our first good Canadian fare including pizza, burgers, coffee and pop at the first Onroute. Our road trip back was filled with chatter, laughter and memories but quickly faded to sleepiness and quiet reflection. We pulled into the MCA parking lot right at 10:00 pm and it didn’t take long to say our good-byes, grab our luggage and dive into the warm cars with our families. It is always nice to come home to our own beds after a trip, to be greeted by family and to remember how much God has blessed us these last two weeks.
We don’t have any of the photos from the last day yet, but here is one of our sunset memories from Cuba as we say good-bye. Thank you for your prayers and support and for being a part of this journey with us. We learned a lot about being flexible and how that means trusting God in the midst of uncertain times. God has been good to us indeed.
Signing off for MCA CUBA 2018.
