How You Can Help

MCA was founded by parents, and we are governed by parents. As well, we consider the parents to be the primary spiritual teachers of their children. MCA’s role is to come alongside the parents and the church. So, it’s fair to say that parents are important to the operation of Maranatha! Since the school’s very first days, parents have been critical in helping with everything from vision setting and fundraising to chaperoning field trips and performing maintenance of the building. Volunteering promotes close co-operation among parents, teachers and students and enables us to build a deep community in the school. No matter your skills, there’s a place for you to help! Please note that some of these opportunities may not be available while the school is operating under pandemic restrictions.

In- School Volunteers

There are many opportunities to assist in your student’s classroom or elsewhere in the school during the day, particularly in the elementary school. Tasks include assisting during lessons, making bulletin boards, marking notebooks or work sheets or a variety of other activities.

Helpers are also needed in the school library and to assist with the hot lunch program.

Parents are invited to attend field trips and inter-school events either with their students or as chaperones.

In order to volunteer with students in the school, contact Patty Broom in the office to receive a police clearance form. Once your clearance is complete, you can speak with the teacher or program coordinator to see how you can help!

Committees & Board of Directors

Much of the work involved in running the school outside of the classroom is overseen by committees made up of parent volunteers. These committees involve varying degrees of commitment, depending on their tasks, but are all in need of volunteers. To find out more about these teams or to volunteer, contact the office to be put in touch with the committee chair.

  • Building & Maintenance Committee: Oversees the upkeep of MCA’s grounds and facilities
  •  Fundraising Committee: Implements regular fundraising events throughout the year; Oversees SHOPS program; Coordinates Build the Base Campaign
  • Promotions: Assists the admissions office with marketing MCA to increase enrolment; coordinates the annual Open House and assists with the website; Oversees Church Ambassadors
  • Member Care: Strategizes on how to create strong relationships  within the MCA community; Organizes the Big Event Kick-off BBQ and Family Day Skate
  • Prayer Team: Meets weekly to pray for the school, teachers, and students
  • Technology: Manages MCA’s wide technological needs, including personal computers, servers, and online learning tools
  • Hospitality: Organizes refreshments for all special events held at the school
There are several specialized committees such as finance, compensation, and Parent Advisory. Temporary committees may also  be arranged as needed.

In addition to these committees, there is a 12-member Board of Directors assists with the governance of the school. Board members are elected by the membership tp 3 year terms and can serve up to 2 consecutive terms before rotating off the board. The Board of Directors provides strategic oversight to the administration, approve new families to membership, and give leadership to the committees listed above.

These committees and Board of Directors are essential to the school working well. We encourage all parents to consider where their God-given talents can be used in these roles to further our mission as a school.

Fundraising

Each year, approximately 30% of our revenue comes from faithful donors and active fundraising by the members of our community.

We have a series of fundraising opportunities that occur throughout each school year that help us reach this goal. By participating, and inviting your friends and family to help as well, you can help MCA continue to provide a quality education to our students.

Walkathon
In the fall, elementary students find sponsors from within and from outside our school, then walk a prescribed course on a school afternoon.

Spring Gala
Each spring, MCA hosts a banquet for parents and their guests that includes an excellent meal, entertainment and a raffle or silent auction.

MCA SHOPS
SHOPS enables you to buy gift cards from your retailer of choice (groceries, gas, home and garden, entertainment, restaurants, and much more) and the retailer gives us a percentage. It costs you nothing extra. Really, we’re just asking you to change your method of payment!

FlipGive
This online rebate programs gives MCA a percentage of your online shopping purchases. It costs you nothing extra and is an easy way to contribute to the school.

Other Events
Throughout the school year, we hold additional fundraisers like pizza and chocolate sales.
