Alabe tu nombre (Praise Your Name)
To start off this morning, as usual, we woke up bright and early for breakfast, then headed up to the school for morning devotions with the high school at 7:30am. The main activity of the day was our school groups. We had groups painting, working on Wi-Fi improvements, preparing crafts, and assisting in English classes. Unlike other days, most groups started off all in the same English class, where we interviewed the students to help them earn extra credit.
After the English class, we divided and conquered. Mrs. DiPietro’s group, Emma, Emily, Micah, and Joey went on a home visit today. There they learned that the mom they visited was a super hard worker and that her daughter has a dream of becoming a doctor. The mom spoke very highly of the school and the education that her daughter has been receiving. Emily says, “It is very inspiring to see how despite their lack of physical things, they are always grateful and dependent on God”.
While painting, half of the students painted the outside wall of the school’s new building and the other half worked inside. After finishing our work at the school, we had about 3 hours of free time where we played games and took naps to catch up on our sleep. Then, after dinner, we went to church again. The worship was super powerful, and God’s presence was very evident in the room. The message was about God and his promises and how he will bless you as you pour into him. The preacher also talked about freely worshipping God with open arms.
Overall, today we learned that God is present even when we don’t feel him. He is with us through our entire day, not just at church. We also learned from one of our chaperones, that painting is very detail-oriented work. As we are nearing the end of our mission trip, we hope that God continues to use us in ways we don’t expect Him to, that we will endure through our challenges, and remember that God is our strength when we are weak.
