Pulled into the Crowd
Today was the first full day in Guatemala. Very early in the morning we had breakfast and immediately went up the hill to the school where we sang worship and got to meet the kids. They were very welcoming and made us feel at home right away; they came up to us as soon as we entered and pulled us into the crowd and danced and sang with us. It was very cool to see their faith in God, often despite their circumstances.
Soon after worship, Blake Langbroek, the lead missionary took on us on a brief tour around the grade school and high school. Blake shared the powerful testimony of his life and the journey God has used to change his life, bringing him to El Tizate, Guatemala. After this, we had some time to play with the kids. We played volleyball, basketball, and soccer.
After touring the school, we were met by Pastor Luis who took us on a tour of the farmland out back of the school. He showed us how they grow coffee, macadamia nuts, and avocados and the process of going from being picked off the tree to being ready for consumption. After this, we had a delicious lunch and headed back down the hill to the casa.
Before dinner, we celebrated Blake’s 28th birthday by singing Happy Birthday to him and watching him break a piñata.
Finally, to end off the day we gathered around a bonfire with everyone. Going around the circle, each of us shared about our rose of the day (something good), thorn of the day (something unexpected), and our bud (something we are looking forward to).
