General Learning Strategies, PSW

After many years working in the auto industry, I felt the Lord was leading me in a different direction. So, at 36, I returned to school. During this time, our three children (now alumni) were enrolled at Maranatha. The staff provided a nurturing and encouraging surrounding for a positive learning experience in all subject areas. When I saw the teachers and administration’s support for their students and each other, I knew that Maranatha was where I wanted to work.

As a former “class clown'” throughout my high school years (not yet reformed), I know that humour can be a positive tool to use in the classroom. It invites participation, reduces stress and anxiety, and helps students be less reluctant to share what they are thinking or feeling. As a practice, I encourage others to try to find the humour in those tough situations they may face.

Encouraging students to grow a deep relationship with their Saviour is a privilege for me. Growing up in today’s digital world can be frightening, so when I can help students to be confident in their beliefs and to rely fully on God, I feel like I am equipping them for the future.

Whether I am teaching a class or working one-on-one support for a student, I am thankful for the opportunity to work at Maranatha, I am thankful the Lord led me here, I am thankful.
