Kindergarten: Early Years at MCA

Kindergarten at Maranatha Christian Academy is full of fun, friends and the early foundations of a solid Christian education. Our experienced staff have a heart for Jesus and a heart for children – a great combination! They are dedicated to helping our youngest MCA Panthers grow in their understanding of the Lord’s love for them, while at the same time preparing them socially, emotionally and physically for school. Our Junior and Senior Kindergarten programs also introduce foundational math and literacy skills, and we look for opportunities to encourage and nurture leadership skills.

The transition from being at home to a more structured environment can be a big step. As Mrs. Samuel often says, we want our youngest students to learn but to have so much fun doing it that they don’t even realize learning is happening!

In our Junior Kindergarten, some of Mrs. Samuel’s goals include: Build trust with her students; help the children make friends and learn to work together; build self-confidence and independence in the students; set the students up for academic success; and work on developing fine motor skills.

Senior Kindergarten is a crucial year, building on the foundation laid in Junior Kindergarten and preparing the students for a structured classroom setting in Grade 1. Each day there’s a morning meeting and the children work on developing communication skills along with math and literacy skills. The students also have lots of time to engage in fine motor centers, purposeful play, creating, painting and more. As Mrs. Newhook says, there’s a strong emphasis on love, learning, faith and fun.
