High School February 12-16, 2018

Happy Asian New Year!  We honoured all of our Asian students and celebrated with them during our Asian lunch today.

It was a nail-biter right to the end during the WECSSAA Senior Girls Volleyball championship game against Lajeunesse.  We were tied 2 games a piece as we entered our fifth game but were narrowly defeated in the end.   Congratulations girls on your valiant effort!  Big thank you to Kim Griffiths (coach) Luke Brouwer (coach) and Mrs. deVries (Teacher rep).

This week, our swim team also competed in the SWOSSAA (South Western Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association) swim meet held at the Windsor Aquatic Center.   For the first time ever in the history of Maranatha, we fielded a boys relay team who placed 3rd in both the 200 freestyle and medley relay.  Hooray!  Andrew Fei placed 2nd in 50m backstroke and 50m fly; Sam Zhang placed 1st in the 50m and 100m freestyle.  Both Andrew and Sam will advance to OFSAA on Feb. 27, 28.

Even though our Boys Basketball team showed much improvement over the season, they were defeated in their last game and thus did not advance on to the finals.   There is much hope for next year as many of our athletes were first time players.

Welcome back, Mrs. Leno!  Our French students, and all of us, are glad you are back from your maternity leave.

On Tuesday, the sounds of music and harmonized voices singing “What a beautiful name – the name of Jesus” filled our high school hallways as students rehearsed the worship songs for our Tea Time for the long-time and faithful supporters of our school.   As we begin the season of Lent and approach Good Friday, may be join in to sing:

You didn’t want heaven without us

So Jesus, You brought heaven down

My sin was great, Your love was greater

What could separate us now

What a wonderful Name it is

What a wonderful Name it is

The Name of Jesus Christ my King
