31 Jan DAY SIX – Work Hard, Play Hard.
Hola mi amigos! Hope all is well back in the mothership (aka good ol’ Canada). Today was another early morning! We were up and at ‘em around 6, with the exception of a few stragglers…
The Hill was quite the workout, as always, but the smiles on the kids faces that greeted us at the top made it worth it! It is a huge gift to begin developing relationships with them and it is the sweetest thing when they remember you. We spent the first part of our morning with our assigned classes hanging out with the kids, singing our hearts out in devotions, and sitting with them for breakfast.
Then the day really began.
Some of our team had the pleasure of working with Mrs. DeVries on the mural (let’s just say some grudges might be held). The others went straight to work digging. And digging. And digging. Another one of our tasks for the day was sorting through a large storage closet of construction supplies and re-organizing! A small group also had the wonderful opportunity to deliver a grocery hamper to another one of the school’s newer families. While it is such an encouraging experience for both parties, this particular family had a heavy story: two parents with 11 kids, one miscarriage, two kidnapped and murdered because the ransom couldn’t be paid. Led by Pastor Jervin, the group prayed for the family, how grateful we are that there is power in prayer!
For lunch, we ate fantastic Guatemalan meals with our house families within El Tizate. From there we took off to VBS in Jocotenango. Our story today was Jesus and Simon Peter walking on the water. Crafts, worship, games, food, and FUN!
After dinner, we were challenged to a football (soccer) match by the Guatemalan youth from the local church and school. We held our own, barely, but they are definitely more skilled. Guatemalans may be smaller, but they are mighty. And fast. The night ended on a great note, but it is safe to say we are all ready for a good night’s sleep.
Love you all and we are so grateful for your prayers and support!
Lindsey, Ella, and Alannah 🙂
